New UK Wind Turbine Factory

The American company GE (General Electric) is building a new wind turbine factory in Britain.

The location has not yet been decided. It is part of a £305M investment in offshore wind power in Europe over the next decade, and is linked to the development of port facilities for the offshore wind power industry announced in the Budget a few days ago.

The number of new jobs will be around 1900.

A factory is also opening in Newcastle making blades for offshore wind turbines, run by "Clipper Windpower".

The Government has granted planning permission for offshore power projects with a rated capacity of 32GW, though the power delivered will be much lower than this.
