The following letters appeared in the press on Feb 20, 2007. They are pertinent to the wind turbine debate.
Sir -
Despite the continuing failure of politicians to resolve some of the worst problems of our society, they continue to persuade us they have the solutions.
It puts one in mind of the medical profession some 300 years ago, when surgeons had no idea of the causes of disease. It did not prevent them from applying the accepted remedies, such as the practice of bloodletting.
Politicians today are equally in the dark as to the solutions for our societal ills, and still resort to the practice of bleeding us to death, with no discernible benefits.
T.B, Bordon, Hants.

Sir- The security of this country should be the Government's prime concern, not some unrealistic scheme for reversing natural and cosmic processes that are still not fully understood.
Saving the planet might well be Tony Blair's fanciful legacy, but for less than the cost of setting up and running his road pricing scheme, he could provide the ships and men the Royal Navy need and ensure that our troops and airmen are appropriately equipped.
Cdr. A.Y., RN, (Rtd), Sheffield.
