SPOOF ARTICLE UNCOMMONLY LIKE THE REAL THING

Claims that Britain's green energy revolution will cost consumers thousands of pounds have been dismissed by people who believe it is going to be windy.

The Committee on Climate Change said that by 2020 the average increase in energy bills caused by renewable investment will be £110 because of all the wind which is definitely going to happen.

Chairman Lord Turner said: "The only problem we can possibly foresee is if it's not as windy as we think it's going to be.

RISING GREENHOUSE GASES COULD TIP OFF ALIENS
Rising greenhouse emissions could tip off aliens that we are a rapidly expanding threat, warns a report entitled 'Would Contact with Extraterrestrials Benefit or Harm Humanity?'

Shawn Domagal-Goldman of Nasa's Planetary Science Division and his colleagues compiled a list of outcomes which might unfold after a 'close encounter'.

Aliens viewing us from afar might view changes in Earth's atmosphere as symptomatic of a civilisation growing out of control, and take drastic action to keep us from becoming a more serious threat.

LIGHTHOUSE DIMMED TO PROTECT BIRDS
A report from Australia - A Tasmanian bird conservation group has praised efforts to protect muttonbirds that are being killed by a lighthouse in north-east Tasmania.

The Tasmanian Aboriginal Land Council has raised concerns that thousands of muttonbirds are killed each year after flying into the Eddystone Point light.

The main light at the lighthouse has now been switched off and replaced with a lower intensity light.

GLOBAL WARMING CAUSED BY COLD WEATHER
The London Guardian reports that in the United Kingdom, greenhouse gas emissions rose by nearly 3% last year, according to government statistics released on Thursday.

The story is accompanied by a photo of a snow-covered street with the caption: "Last year's rise in carbon emissions was due to an increase in gas used to heat homes driven by the cold weather."
